- RecoverWordDoc v1.2 Documentation
- =================================
-
- Please distribute this text document along with RecoverWordDoc, when you
- pass it along to your friends and associates.
-
- This utility quickly extracts the readable ASCII text from a corrupted
- MS-WORD document.
-
- Registration Info
- =================
-
- This is SHAREWARE! It is not free, or public domain. The price is $5!
-
- I am trying to avoid the hassle and expense of commercial advertising and
- distribution, by making this program available through the shareware “try
- before you buy” route. Please note the three (3) day trial period. There's
- nothing complicated about this very popular and useful utility, no tricky
- features it would take time to master. You should know immediately whether
- you'd rather send the money, or trash the program.
-
- To register your copy of RecoverWordDoc, send your check or money order for
- $5.00 to:
-
- SK Hushing III (RecoverWordDoc 1.2)
- PO Box 9745
- San Diego, California 92109
-
- Thanks in advance for showing the consideration and honesty to become a
- registered user.
-
- Usage Hints
- ===========
-
- It's assumed that you have a MS-WORD document that went bad on you for some
- unknown reason, and that you have no backup (tsk, tsk!) to which you can
- turn for relief.
-
- Run RecoverWordDoc. After the introductory window comes up (have you sent
- your $5.00 yet?), click in the window to make it go away.
-
- Next select "Recover…" from the File menu, and then choose the file to be
- recovered. RecoverWordDoc will create an ASCII output file by appending
- “.RCVR” to the input file name. If you want to recover several files, just
- repeat this step until you're done. Use of the command-o keyboard
- equivalent will speed up the process slightly.
-
- Version Information
- ===================
-
- Version 1.0 was written in Microsoft BASIC, and just copied the letters and
- numbers in the ASCII character set. Even though it was compiled, it was
- pretty slow, due to heavy use of the BASIC string functions which are none
- too quick. For what it did, the application size was pretty large, too.
- Blame the BASIC runtime library for that.
-
- Version 1.1 was modified to also copy most of the special characters.
-
- Version 1.2 is a THINK C rewrite for speed, and is the first SHAREWARE
- version of this program.
-
